Kimbrough and Jared Rascoe work to bring in a fish during Saturday’s Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship on Kentucky’s Green River Lake.(Photo: Bassmaster.com)North Louisiana and east Texas will be well represented when the YETI FLW College Fishing national championship kicks off this week on the Red River.Two teams apiece from LSUS, Louisiana Tech and ULM, along with one from ETBU, will be among the 182 collegiate teams representing 105 colleges from across the country vying a Ranger boat, some hardware and a chance to compete in the prestigious 2018 Forrest Wood Cup. “It’s good to finally have a major college tournament here in Shreveport. I think our local knowledge of how the river has changed with the recent floods will put us at an advantage,” said LSUS veteran angler Jared Rascoe of Stonewall. “There will be over 180 teams from across the country competing so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Being that I graduated a few weeks ago, this will be my last big college tournament, so we are looking to bring home the trophy here in our backyard.” The nearly 400 anglers will compete on Wednesday through Friday on the river, with Saturday’s action between just two anglers. The event is being hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission and the Red River Waterway Commission. Rascoe will compete with Bossier City’s James Kimbrough, while Ryan Antee and Harrison Hopkins, both of Bossier City, will also represent LSUS. Tech anglers include Scott McClellan (Leesville), Adam Forester (Tioga), Taylor Tindall (Monroe) and Brennan Soileau (Lake Charles).
