BRANSON MO NEWS: Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe was the keynote speaker at an event hosted by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce to talk about Proposition D, the proposed fuel tax.On Tuesday, Nov. 6, voters will be asked statewide to add 2.5 cents at the fuel pump. Beginning in July of 2019, the tax would increase annually until 2022, when it reaches 27 cents per gallon. SaferMO estimates this would bring in $412 million for state and local roads and bridges, and state law enforcement the first year.“Thirty-five percent of our gas tax is collected from non-Missouri residents,” Lt. On the statewide basis our state works with its planning partners, again with community leaders, to figure out what projects will be funded and they use a priority process, and that’s how it’s determined.”Buchanan County would receive $1.5 million annually, and of that amount St. Joseph would get $1.2 million. If passed, the tax goes to three specific entities. According to the Missouri Constitution, 15 gallons of gas would pay $2.55 toward Missouri’s roads, bridges, Highway Patrol, and a collection tax that is capped at $3 million. Proposition D would add 37 cents for 15 gallons of gas. That amount would pay Missouri $2.92 for every pump the first year. In 2022, Missouri would receive $4.42 from 15 gallons.Pat Lilly, president of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, said in his travels business leaders convey …
