Malinda Rebecca Carpenter, formerly of Ashburn, VA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Birmingham Green Nursing Facility, Manassas, VA.

Malinda was born in Winchester, VA on February 17, 1954. She loved all things about Virginia, especially the Shenandoah Valley and the Virginia Cavaliers. Malinda had a love for horses like none other but most important to her was the love she had for her family. She was very active in the Loudoun County Special Olympics and Very Special Arts. She enjoyed trips to Branson, Missouri, Belgium, Disney World and other areas. She would always be the first one to lead her friends in singing (especially Elvis) and dancing, loved working in the garden, and participating in activities at Friendship House in Leesburg, VA until her health prevented her from doing so.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Bertha Carpenter. Malinda is loving survived by her sisters, Enda Hamm of Manassas, VA, Cathey Robertson of Havre de Grace, MD, and Debbie Roberts of Hedgesville, WV. She is also survived by nieces Lisa (David) Elswick of Manassas, VA and Lyndsay (John) Putnam of Raleigh, NC, nephews Glen Hamm of Centreville, VA, Louis Robertson (Carrie) of Havre de Grace, MD and Jesse (Samantha) Roberts of Front Royal, VA, and three great nephews and three great nieces.

A memorial service will be held for Malinda at Sudley United Methodist Church, 5308 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA 20109 at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2016 with Pastor Hyo J. Lee officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Birmingham Green Memorial Fund in Malinda’s memory. The family would like to thank the patient and compassionate nursing staff at Birmingham Green for the care they showed Malinda.
