BRANSON MO NEWS: After a rain delay and six slow innings, Missouri beat Tennessee 8-3 Saturday to clinch the final spot in the 12-team Southeastern Conference Tournament.Missouri (34-21, 12-18 SEC) tied for sixth in the SEC East with the Volunteers (29-27, 12-18 SEC), but earned the final spot with the series victory that gave the Tigers the tiebreaker.Junior outfielder Zach Hanna broke a 2-2 tie with a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning. Senior outfielder Trey Harris capped a six-run seventh with a three-run home run.
Nile Ball threw four innings in relief and allowed one run. The junior was credited with the win.Missouri will open SEC Tournament play against South Carolina on Tuesday night in Hoover, Alabama.Tigers break tie with six-run seventhJunior Brian Sharp hit Missouri’s first home run in the first inning, his eighth of the season. He tied the game at 1-1 after Tennessee’s Andre Lipcius homered in the top of the first.Junior left-hander Tyler LaPlante pitched into the sixth inning and allowed two runs. Ball took over and pitched the rest of the game.Despite the quick start, there was a 2-2 stalemate going into the seventh inning.The bottom of the seventh was the defining moment of the game for the Tigers.The six-run inning started with a solo home run by outfielder Zach Hanna before second baseman Matt Berler doubled in two runs. Missouri grew its lead with a three-run home run from senior outfielder Trey Harris.Tennessee loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning.
