Missouri man sentenced for Branson love triangle killing

BRANSON, Mo. – A Missouri man has been sentenced to more than 20 years for a fatal love-triangle shooting in Branson.
The Taney County prosecuting attorney says 23-year-old Dakota Claypole, of Branson, was sentenced Friday to 21 years for second-degree murder and 21 years for armed criminal action. The sentences are to be served at the same time.
Prosecutors say Claypole killed 22-year-old Daxton Drake in January 2017. Both men were romantically involved with the same woman. She told authorities that she was in bed with Drake when Claypole walked up the stairs leading into the bedroom armed with a handgun.
She said Claypole yelled at Drake and fired in his direction before fatally shooting Drake when he stood up. Claypole was arrested a few miles away after fleeing in Drake’s vehicle.
