BRANSON MO NEWS: Missouri State Parks is asking for input from the community about its newest park.
Ozark Mountain State Park is located northwest of Branson along Missouri 465.
Communications Director Steph Deidrick said Missouri State Parks doesn’t know when the new park will open.
“We just acquired this property. We’re in the planning stages,” Deidrick said. “We know that a lot of our initial work will be natural resource stewardship efforts, so there’s a lot of interesting glades and, of course, bald knobs signature to this area. We don’t have details of recreation facilities or when it’s going to be open to the public.”
The earliest mention of this area in general was a park expansion plan that traces back to almost 20 years ago, Deidrick said.
“When (the state park) mentioned they were interesting in adding White River glades to this park system,” she said. “For more than 20 years, we’ve been looking for a property that would fit. Funding was made available, and this property was on the market.”
Ozark Mountain State Park was purchased for $2.8 million, according to Branson Tri-Lakes News archives.
