BRANSON NEWS: Sadie is a playful pup who likes to wander the streets of her town northwest of Branson in Missouri’s Ozarks, her family says.
But when she was returned by a concerned stranger, her family noticed something different about Sadie: Someone had used a marker to draw a swastika on the dog’s head.
“It just kind of shocks me that somebody around here would do that,” Sadie’s owner, Tracey Howard, told Springfield television station KSPR.
Sami Gilbert, who found Sadie by the side of a busy road in Crane, called it “heartbreaking” that someone would mark the small dog with a Nazi symbol universally recognized to represent hate.
It’s at least the second time in the last several months that someone has marked a dog’s head with a swastika. Last August, a chihuahua showed up at a house in North Phoenix with a swastika painted on its head, Phoenix television station KPNX reported.
The woman’s neighbors admitted to painting the symbol on their dog as a joke, but the woman who found the dog didn’t find it amusing.
Sadie’s owners aren’t laughing in Missouri, either. They’re trying to figure out how to wash the swastika off of Sadie’s head.
