The keynote speaker will be five time world boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard.Sugar Ray Leonard met with the boys and girls and toured the club. Leonard won a gold medal in the 1976 Olympic Games, and had a 20 year professional career between 1977 and 1997. He won five world titles in five different weight classes. Sugar Ray grew up in the boys club in Washington DC and enjoys sharing his experiences with the current kids at the club.”That was the first time that I put the gloves on. I was about nine. And I put the gloves on and some kid punched me in the nose, and I said that’s good. I quit,” Leonard laughts. “One of my many retirements. I came back when I was 14 years old. But the Boys & Girls Club, that’s the best. To let kids know that they can become or be whatever they want to be.
