MU softball steals win from Southeastern Louisiana in Sunday doubleheader

BRANSON MO NEWS: Southeastern Louisiana’s bench bubbled over with enthusiasm after scoring for the first time in two days against Missouri’s pitching. The Lions’ bench chanted “we ready, we ready” repeatedly as they relished in their early 3-0 lead Saturday afternoon.Missouri’s Rylee Pierce and Kolby Romaine made sure to silence their opponents.The duo connected with a pair of home runs, Romaine’s coming in walk-off fashion, and the Tigers fought back to steal a 6-4 win in extra innings and maintain their perfect record during the 2018 season at Mizzou Softball Stadium.

“At that point with a runner on third and nobody out, I’m just trying to hit something high and far, so I guess it worked,” Romaine said. “I thought it was going to go foul, and then as I was running I was like ‘it’s curving, it’s curving.’”While Romaine played hero in the end, Missouri’s comeback was fueled by a number of sources.“I think we have a good, versatile lineup,” Romaine said. “If one person’s off, we have someone else who’s on. We’re not relying on the same three people or four people.”Along with Romaine’s long ball, Pierce (3-for-3, HR, 2B), Braxton Burnside (RBI) and Trenity Edwards (RBI) helped spark the Tigers inch closer and eventually pull ahead.Pierce’s deep fly was her fourth of the season. She ended the first game of the day a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.Burnside and Edwards’ sac flies, interim head coach Gina Fogue said, were a sign of opportunistic hitting.“Throughout the course of the year we’ve left a lot of runners on,” Fogue said. “We’ve moved ‘em over to third quite a bit and that was good to see that our girls …
