BRANSON MO NEWS: Earlier this week, organizers announced the annual “Southwest Missouri New Music Showcase & Songwriting Contest,” which also doubles as a fundraiser to benefit the Branson-Hollister Senior Center, is set for April 18 at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater.Like the past two years, this event will again see a handful of local singers, songwriters and entertainers perform original music to help raise funds, with a special added twist for this year. The 2018 edition will see the singer-songwriters compete in an “American Idol” style songwriting contest.Successful local group Prince Ivan will again host and perform at the event, and guest performances from other local groups Jade, Eastern Heights, and Jacob Hughes have also already been announced.
Since this year’s fundraiser has evolved into a contest, producers have assembled an “all-star” panel of judges, headlined by Billy Yates, the “Raiding the Country Vault” standout who is also a Grammy-nominated artist who co-wrote “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” and “Choices” for George Jones. Yates is also headlining a new show,” “Billy Yates’ Hit Songwriters in the Round” at the Americana Theatre next month.Joining Yates at the judge’s table are record Producer, songwriter, and studio engineer Brandon Mashburn, who has worked with Beyonce, U2, and Rascal Flatts, Top 20 recording artist Jason Pritchett, and Andrea Brett, a multiple winner of Branson’s Songwriter of the Year.First prize is $200 cash and one single recording, mixing and mastering package from The Mansion Studios.Second prize is $200, and the third place finisher takes home $100.Representatives from the Branson-Hollister Senior Center were forced to rethink their fundraising efforts three years ago after they discovered they could no longer host the “Gong Show” event, which was extremely popular.
