BRANSON MO NEWS: Meaningful stroll: Walk along Green Street to arrive at the grounds of Our Town’s city hall. Bring the children, too. Share our country’s history as you read the memorial markers displaying the names of those who made the supreme sacrifice to keep our country free. Find a stone topped by a bronze eagle with the words, “Their sacrifice is futile, if peace is not made secure. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” It was erected by AMVETS Post 52 and VFW Post 7573. Nearby is a memorial to local men who were killed during wartime. It reads, “In Memoriam: World War I 1914-1918: William C. Ferris, Herbert J. Seifert; World War II 1941-1945: Reginald J. Bethey, Frank A. Blackwell, Bernard J. David, Leonard Lempke, Milo A. Meldrum, Wilton A. Rivard, Miner R. Smith; Korean War: Roy T. Johr, Leonard J. Miklovich, George A. Pfusch; Vietnam War: Stephen G. Lord, David A. Moore, Steven J. Scott, Frederick G. Steffen, James W. Thibault.” (Readers will note: Many of Our Town’s streets are named in honor of the men.) During the May 28 Memorial Day ceremony that follows the Memorial Day Parade, wreaths will be placed at the foot of the stones by service organizations and city officials. Line-up is at 9:30 a.m. on Front Street for VFW Post 7573 and AMVETS Post 52 Color Guards, the Anchor Bay High School Color Guard and the Anchor Bay High Marching Tars. Walkers and those riding bikes, along with the Mother’s Club, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Little League teams will meet at the corner of Front and Maria streets. All will be given a flag to wave.
