BRANSON NEWS:

Paul Eugene Barnett and JoEtta Barnett of Columbia recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 1, 1956, at St. Parks Methodist Church in Baltimore.

Their children are Robin (John) Long and Paul (Trish) Barnett, all of Columbia. They have four grandchildren – Gene Long, Brennen (Donnie) Fetner, Sydney Long and Nicholas Barnett – and two great-grandchildren, Easton and Ellington Fetner.

Paul and Jo enjoy live entertainment and frequently go to Myrtle Beach to take in the shows there. To celebrate their 60th anniversary, they are spending two weeks in Branson, Missouri, where they are planning to enjoy the many shows Branson has to offer.

Daughter Robin writes, “After a whirlwind courtship that lasted only six weeks, their marriage has survived two bouts with cancer, a stroke, a house fire, an accident that resulted in 150 stitches to close a gash on the head, legal blindness and several military deployments. They thank God and their savior Jesus Christ for allowing them 60 years together and the added blessing of living close to their children, grands and great grands so that they can take part and be involved in family activities.”

Paul and Jo met while they were both working at the National Security Agency. Paul was in the Marine Corps, where he retired after 20 years, during which he earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving two tours in Vietnam. He later retired from Colonial Life/Union Corporation.

JoEtta retired after 37 years where she was a teacher, school administrator, and education consultant. They are actively involved at Temple Baptist Church.
