Schweizer, others set for USATF Outdoors

BRANSON MO NEWS: Fresh off wrapping up the collegiate competition phase of her Missouri career at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a sixth national title, Karissa Schweizer will be back in action this weekend.Now a signed pro after agreeing to a deal with Kimbia Athletics, the 10-time All-American will race in the women’s 5,000 meters — the event in which she earned that sixth national crown on June 9 in Eugene, Oregon — at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Sunday back in her home area of Des Moines, Iowa.

Schweizer heads into the 5,000 with her top time of 15 minutes, 19.65 seconds the sixth-fastest among the entries. Her race is scheduled for 3:22 p.m. CDT, and it will be televised live on NBC.Schweizer will be joined at the meet, which kicks off Thursday, by Missouri rising redshirt senior Gabi Jacobs, who will compete in the women’s discus at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Also at the meet will be former Tigers John Warren — who transferred to Southern Miss — and Tony Carodine, with both taking part in the men’s triple jump at 5:30 p.m. Friday. And Southern Boone grad Landon Bartel, who just finished up a standout career at Nebraska, will be in the men’s high jump at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
