BRANSON MO NEWS: With a goal of sharing an ice cream with each of Missouri’s mayors, a Waynesville girl took several steps toward meeting her goal in Branson Monday.With the city hosting the Missouri Municipal League’s annual conference, Taylor Duncan, age 5, was able to share a frozen treat and ask questions of about 70 mayors.According to Duncan, who attends home school, she was asked about pursuing a project that would help her learn about the state of Missouri.
“At first I wanted to visit every city,” Duncan said. “Then my mom said we could take a picture at every city sign. Then that’s how I get that idea.”When her daughter first proposed the project, Therese Duncan thought they would be able to meet a couple of mayors. As of Monday, Taylor Duncan has now met about 100 mayors.“I was hoping we’d be able to get one or two,” Therese Duncan said. “Everyone has been so supportive, it’s been so amazing.”Branson Mayor Karen Best said she wanted to invite Taylor Duncan to the conference after hearing about her goal.“When we first heard Taylor was wanting to have ice cream with mayors from across the state, it was a no-brainer for us to reach out since we’re hosting the ‘Mayors United for Progress’ meeting here,” Best said. “Where else can you have 70 to 80 mayors in one room with ice cream?”After meeting about 100 mayors, Taylor Duncan said almost all of them have something in common.“They’ve all had kind of the same problem,” Taylor Duncan said. “Money, money for their city.”
When asked what she hopes her daughter will take away from the experience, Therese Duncan said she hopes she knows she’ll be able to accomplish anything she sets her mind to.“It’ …
