BRANSON NEWS:

Shelton Arben Stone, age 77, of Branson, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016. Shelton was born December 4, 1938, in Cherokee County, Alabama, the son of Eugene and Liller (McAbee) Stone. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.

Shelton attended Cherokee County Schools, graduating in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines four years, traveling the world, and in the Reserves for two years. He was joined in marriage to Brenda J. Welsh on August 25, 1961, in Atlanta, Georgia. The celebrated their 55th anniversary last week. To this marriage they were blessed with three children. Shelton was a Mason and retired from Lake Guntersville State Park as the Maintenance Engineer after 30 years of service, retiring to Branson, Missouri.

A man of great strength, he survived a plane crash in Arizona, being struck with 2700 volts of electricity, and he also survived the joys and craziness of family. He loved restoring tractors and old cars, especially Corvettes, often cheated at card games but never admitted to it, was notorious for falling asleep while watching the Braves play and waking up as soon as someone changed the channel. He was a man of few words but great at one-liners and quick with a quip and a chuckle. Friday morning he went to see the Man upstairs and sadly passed away. “PawPaw” will be dearly missed by his grandchildren and all his dear family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Brenda of the home; children, Ann Christine Balla and husband Joe of Centennial, Colorado, Sandra Dean Michel and husband Jon of Cornelius, North Carolina,  Randall Gene and wife Ameila of Huntsville, Alabama and a daughter from a previous marriage, Susan Davidson; a sister, Elaine Hildemann of Bedford, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilson Stone, Houston Stone, and Colloun Stone; three sisters, Hazel Bobo, Alvis Vann, Helen Henson; and a daughter of a previous message, Susan.

A private memorial gathering was held Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Cremations of the Ozarks. Inurnment will be held at a later time at Cherokee Memory Gardens in Centre, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite humane society honoring Shelton. For online condolences please visit www.cremationsoftheozarks.com.
