BRANSON MO NEWS: FORSYTH — In addition to boasting some of the most talented players southwest Missouri has seen in recent years on Aurora’s side, the Houn’ Dawgs had plenty of reason to be motivated Tuesday.
Hollister catcher Jenner Steele and his teammates knew they would see the best out of Aurora the second time around and the Houn’ Dawgs responded with a 10-0, six-inning triumph in the championship game of the Forsyth Tournament.
After losing to Hollister 2-0 in the opening round of pool play on Saturday, Aurora outscored its next three foes by a combined 41-0 on its way to repeating as champs.
“After Landon (Farquhar) threw an amazing game against them (Saturday), we knew they were going come out here tonight and really want to hit the ball,” Steele said. “They broke it open.”
It took four-plus innings, but in the fifth Aurora broke a scoreless tie and promptly pulled away 5-0 on a grand slam by Matthew Miller.
For Miller, it was his third home run in two nights.
“He’s a big guy who can swing it,” Steele said. “He can flat out hit.”
