Waterpark won’t be ready by holiday

BRANSON MO NEWS: POWELLS POINT – The H2OBX waterpark in Lower Currituck apparently isn’t going to be ready to open in time for Memorial Day.Camelback Properties broke ground on the $46 million mega-recreational complex off N.C. Highway 158 last October. At the time, Camelback officials said the waterpark would be ready in time for Memorial Day, which is Monday.But according to Currituck County’s chief building inspector, the H2OBX waterpark won’t be ready to open on Monday. Chief Building Inspector Bill Newns also said it’s not clear when the park will be ready.”Right now, I don’t when they’re going to be ready,” Newns said. “They haven’t really told us.”Repeated attempts to reach Brian Czarnecki, vice president of marketing for Camelback, for this story were unsuccessful.Newns said his inspectors have been inspecting the waterpark site on a daily basis. Newns said he believes crews at the site recently started working on weekends to complete the project.Newns said he mostly deals with the office-related and engineering specifics on the project, while one of his building inspectors, Rick Godsey, performs the on-site inspections.Newns said Camelback Properties has requested a temporary document to allow the waterpark to …
