For many women at the Bellevue Senior Community Center, Wednesday is a special day. No matter what their responsibilities are the rest of the week, Wednesday is their time to paint.“We don’t miss a week,” Barb Manthey said. “We plan our doctor appointments and everything around our Wednesday get-togethers.”For the past 20 years, the “Wednesday Painting Ladies,” as they’ve been called, have gathered in the art room at the Bellevue Senior Community Center to work on their paintings, whether acrylics, watercolor, pastels or oil paintings, starting at 9 a.m. or earlier and often until 4 in the afternoon.
Manthey, along with Farol Lofgren, are the two original members of the group still involved. The two have painted together for 30 years. When the Bellevue Senior Community Center first opened, they knew they had a new place to gather each week.“As soon as they remodeled this building we knew we had this room,” Manthey said. “We felt like we were really special.”The group has anywhere from three to 10 women who meet each week.
