BRANSON MO NEWS: Winston Dimel’s college career will end the same way it began: alongside his father.Dimel, Kansas State’s starting fullback the past three seasons, announced Sunday he was transferring to UTEP, where his father, Dana Dimel, was hired as head coach in December after nine seasons as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator.Winston Dimel revealed the news in a message on his personal Twitter account.
“Excited to announce that I will be playing at UTEP for my senior season while also pursuing a master’s degree in leadership studies!” Dimel wrote. “I’m excited to be working with a great group of teammates and coaches in pursuit of a successful season! Time to work! #PicksUp”At the time, Dimel told The Mercury he started thinking about leaving K-State shortly after its Cactus Bowl victory over UCLA on Dec. 26. After talking through it with the Wildcats’ coaching staff, he made up his mind a few weeks later to start fresh elsewhere.

“Some of the things I’m not going to get into, but I just wanted a chance to start somewhere new,” Dimel said. “We just felt it was the best thing for me to do for my future and hopefully playing in the NFL. That’s one of the biggest reasons.”After he left K-State, Dimel said he had three potential schools in mind other than UTEP: Missouri, Texas A&M and Wisconsin. But ultimately, Dimel decided he wanted to reunite with his father as he tries to resurrect UTEP’s program, which went 0-12 last season, making it the only winless team in the FBS.As a graduate transfer, Winston Dimel will be eligible to play for the Miners immediately.
