BRANSON MO NEWS: C

alls soliciting support for area firefighters is a scam, according to the Branson Fire Department.

Writing a message on the Branson Fire Department’s Facebook page, chief Ted Martin said he received a call with the caller ID displaying Support Fire.

“Took a call from them today asking for an address to send a packet for a minimum $15 donation to Support Fallen Firefighters and fire programs,” Martin said. “I asked where they were from … Texas. Asked how that benefited Missouri Firefighters – the caller just wanted my address to send an envelope for a $15 donation, could they depend on my support. I then identified as the fire chief of my hometown and surprisingly he hung up on me.”

Martin said no area firefighters would benefit from the calls.

“Please know the Branson Fire Department does not benefit from this solicitation tactic,” Martin said in a Facebook post. “And I doubt our neighboring departments do nor the International Association of Fire Chiefs or International Association of Firefighters.”
