BRANSON MO NEWS: Dec. 17, 1936 — June 26, 2018
Carol Joan Shelton, 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 26, at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake.
Carol was born to Jacob Floyd and Hazel (Prunty) Walker on Dec. 17, 1936 in Cherokee. Carol grew up and attended school in Marcus. She was united in marriage to Ronald Shelton on Aug. 26, 1956. After Ron’s honorable discharge from the U.S. Army they made their home in Iowa.
Carol lived in Spirit Lake for the past 46 years and enjoyed lake life on West Lake Okoboji. She worked at Spirit Lake Middle School for 25 years, where she loved her job.
Carol liked to travel and read. In later years she stayed sharp doing brain-teasers and puzzles. For the past few years Carol resided at Welcov Assisted Living where she had many friends and was very happy. Carol lived a full life and was so proud of her children and grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Hazel, husband Ron and an infant daughter. She is survived by her son, Steve Shelton of Spirit Lake; daughter Paula (Dave) Hogenson of Fargo, North Dakota; grandchildren: Andrew Hogenson of Taipei, Taiwan; Peter (Holly) Hogenson of Chaska, Minnesota; and Kirsten Hogenson of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Carol is also survived by sister Jan Mertens of Branson, Missouri; brother Jake (Linda) Walker of Oskaloosa and sister Joyce (Jim) Boles of Spirit Lake.
A memorial celebrating Carol’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. The Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
