Commentary: Brandon Halter steps up for Oregon Tech in final college season

BRANSON MO NEWS: News-Review Sports EditorThe Oregon Tech men’s basketball team features the top 3-point shooter in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in Brandon Halter.The 6-foot-4 senior, a former three-sport athlete at Glide High School, has the green light from head coach Justin Parnell to let ‘er fly from beyond the arc. Halter is shooting 38 percent (81-for-216) from 3-point range and leads the CCC in treys made.
“My role is to be a shooter and get the ball down low (to the posts),” said Halter, who’s the second-leading scorer for Oregon Tech on the season with 15.2 points a game. “Every time I have a bad game, coach (Parnell) tells me to keep shooting.”Halter was a reserve last year on Danny Miles’ final team at Oregon Tech, averaging 6.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game. The Owls lost to Northwest Christian in the CCC semifinals and finished 23-9 under the legendary Miles, who retired following his 45th season at the NAIA school in Klamath Falls.The No. 24-ranked Hustlin’ Owls, who were picked to finish seventh in the CCC preseason coaches’ poll, have exceeded expectations in Parnell’s first season.Heading into Saturday’s game at Walla Walla, Oregon Tech (19 …
