Gonzalez: There are plenty of reasons to be proud of America
BRANSON MO NEWS: Ten years ago, America’s first lady stated that for the first time, she was proud of this country.America had just elected our new president.Recently, Gov. Mario Cuomo, from the great state of New York, basically told the world that America was never great.Now why would high-profile politicians make such profound statements like that, and not consider the backlash as to its absurdity? Perhaps they don’t truly believe in the greatness of this country like I do. They have probably never seen what my eyes have seen.My wife and I have seen 45 of our magnificent states. We’ve seen the country from Houston to Austin to San Antonio. We’ve seen the famous Dallas Cowboy Stadium and the eye-catching Gateway Arch of St. Louis. We’ve traveled the back roads from the northern to the southern borders of this country. We’ve walked the sands of Myrtle Beach and waded in the seashores of the great Pacific Ocean down by San Diego. We’ve photographed the beauty of the Rockies and Blue Ridge Mountains. We toured the southern states that gave us all our southern heroes from the Civil War, hailing from Louisiana all the way to the Carolinas.We walked the solemn streets of Ellis Island. We stood next to the Statue of Liberty and raised our glass to the New York City skyline. We toured our nation’s capital, and read the lines within the Lincoln Memorial and gracefully admired the Washington Monument. We took a walk down Pennsylvania Avenue.We’ve seen nature’s beauty from Florida to Boston and everything in between. We rode the ferry at Niagara Falls and touched the waters of the Great Lakes down by Cleveland and Chicago. We’ve seen the beauty down in Branson, Mo., and admired the Hot Springs of Arkansas.
