Intern says, ‘Hello!’
BRANSON MO NEWS: Hello! My name is Emily Cole. I’m a new face in the newsroom here at the Branson Tri-Lakes News. I’m going to be working here this summer as an intern, writing stories and exploring Branson. I’m a senior journalism and mass media student at Missouri State University in Springfield.As well as being a student, I am the News Editor for the MSU student-run newspaper The Standard. I’m new to the role, but I’m looking forward to helping lead my fellow students and reporters to create an amazing paper in the coming year.
Outside of writing, I also work at a fused glass studio in Springfield called Creative Escape Glass where I help people learn about fused glass and create their own glass art. I live in Springfield, so I have a bit of a commute to get here, but I think it will be worth the drive.I haven’t always loved journalism. I started college as an elementary education major, and then went through two more majors before I found journalism. When I did that, I found my home. I’ve always loved writing, but I never thought I could do it as a career. But journalism gives me that, and I love it.
I also enjoy researching different topics and speaking to people about their lives and experiences. I’m excited to enter the field, and hope one day to return to school, level up my education and teach students like me to love journalism, too. As for this summer, I hope to learn so much while working here, and be able to provide readers with good, quality journalism and maybe a little bit of entertainment, too.
