LOCAL BRIEFS: MU softball adds another assistant
BRANSON MO NEWS: Chris Malveaux is the latest addition to new Missouri softball coach Larissa Anderson’s staff.Malveaux, who spent 2018 as the video coordinator at Kansas, was hired as an assistant coach Thursday. He was the associate head coach at Louisiana in 2016-17.“Chris is one of the most respected hitting coaches in the country, and I’m beyond thrilled to have him join our staff at Mizzou,” Anderson said in a release. “Not only does he bring a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience in coaching and player development, but he also has key recruiting ties and relationships across the country.”
Malveaux brings head coaching experience to the position as well. He served as head coach at McNeese State from 2005-08 and an assistant coach at Bradley from 2012-15. In his first year at the helm at McNeese, Malveaux’s team won a Southland Conference championship. At Bradley, his 2014 team won the Missouri Valley Conference championship.“I’m extremely honored and appreciative to Coach Anderson and Mizzou Director of Athletics Jim Sterk for this tremendous opportunity,” Malveaux said. “I’m so excited to join the Mizzou Softball program and to build onto the tradition that already exists. I’m honored to work for Larissa, who’s done some great things already at a very high level.”MU volleyball’s Munlyn named Preseason All-SECMissouri senior middle blocker Alyssa Munlyn was named to the Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Team on Thursday, as voted on by the conference’s head coaches.It marks the second consecutive Preseason All-SEC honor for Munlyn, who hails from Suwanee, Georgia. She has earned three straight All-American distinctions from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.Munlyn has reset the single-season blocks record in each of her three years. She had 189 total blocks in 2017, and her .381 hitting percentage ranked fifth in the conference.“ …
