Missouri crash kills Lincoln girl, leaves brothers critically injured; donations being collected

BRANSON NEWS: A Lincoln girl has died after a rollover crash in southwestern Missouri that left two of her brothers battling serious injuries in a St. Louis hospital.Six of the nine members of Borland-Bakirane family were injured in the crash, which happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on a Missouri highway near the town of Bolivar.The family’s youngest child, 11-year-old Eliza Bakirane, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said she was buckled in and trapped in the SUV, which was driven by her mother, Maria Borland.Lt. Roger Barron of the Bolivar Police Department told the Bolivar Herald-Press that Borland over-corrected and her Chevy Suburban went off the road and lost traction on loose gravel in a construction area before rolling and landing on its wheels.Two of Borland’s sons, Issac and Reese, suffered critical injuries after being thrown from the SUV.They were taken to a hospital in nearby Springfield before being flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital later Tuesday, the newspaper reported.Barron said the family was headed to the Silver Dollar City theme park in Branson, Missouri.
The Borland-Bakirane family is very active in Capitol City Christian Church, which they have attended for over 10 years, church administrative director Stephanie Remus said.The northeast Lincoln church has begun to collect donations for the family and is directing donors to give through its website, capitolcity.org.
“We are just immediately in prayer for the two boys,” Remus said.Steve Borland, who was not in the crash, runs a pest control business in Lincoln, and Maria Borland home-schools their children, Remus said.Both are involved in the church’s children’s ministry, and Maria Borland runs the church’s monthly free clothing exchange, she said.Remus described the family as having a strong faith and large church family.”Their faith will bring their …
