Monmouth poll finds statistical ties in <b>Missouri's</b> Senate & governor races; Trump leads Clinton

Both Missouri’s U.S. Senate race and its race for governor have tightened to statistical ties less than four weeks out from the Nov. 8 election, according to a new Monmouth University poll.Republican Sen. Roy Blunt, previously the clear front runner in his re-election bid, now is holding just a 2-point lead over Democratic challenger Jason Kander, the poll found. They stood at 46 percent and 44 percent support, respectively.At the same time, Republican gubernatorial nominee Eric Greitens has cut Democrat Chris Koster’s summer lead of 11 points down to just 3 points. The poll puts the Koster-Greitens race at 46-43.
The new poll has a 4.9 percentage point margin of error.Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump holds a 5-point lead in the state over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, 46-41, putting that contest just outside the poll’s margin for error.Trump’s lead here isn’t a surprise, as Missouri has been trending Republican in the past few national elections.
But the closeness of the Blunt-Kander race is likely to focus renewed national attention on the state in the battle between the parties for control of the Senate. The poll’s findings generally jibe with national political analysts who have recently re-categorized the state’s Senate race …
