MU baseball falls to Mississippi State in 15-inning marathon
BRANSON MO NEWS: On Saturday, the Missouri baseball team squandered a myriad of opportunities to win a Southeastern Conference series for the first time in two tries this season.

The Tigers (18-6, 2-3 SEC) took a 1-0 lead over Mississippi State (13-11, 1-4 SEC) into the ninth inning but lost 3-1 to the Bulldogs in 15 innings. The loss marks MU’s first at Taylor Stadium of the 2018 season.
With sophomore left-hander T.J. Sikkema (2-0, 1.89 ERA) moved to a starting spot Friday night and pitching seven innings in a 4-1 Missouri win, the Tigers’ bullpen lacked its go-to man. So junior Michael Plassmeyer (3-0, 2.45 ERA), who had already pitched eight scoreless innings, came out for the ninth and gave up the tying run, which came on a single up the middle from Jordan Westburg.Missouri and MSU traded zeroes for five full frames until the Bulldogs broke the 1-1 tie in the 15th inning. With two men in scoring position, Mississippi State’s Hunter Stovall scorched a ball off the foot of Missouri freshman relief pitcher Konnor Ash. Both runners scored as the ball rolled into shallow right field. Junior left-hander Tyler LaPlante, who pitched ⅔ of an inning, was charged with the two runs and suffered his first loss of the season.The Tigers put a man on base in five of the last seven innings but failed to turn that productivity into a run.
