MU volleyball takes two in doubleheader at Mizzou Invitational

BRANSON MO NEWS: While the Missouri volleyball team may be accustomed to road matches, the Tigers have proven they can get the job done at home, too.Missouri (9-2) dropped just one set in its home-opening doubleheader Friday, earning wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Ohio at the Mizzou Invitational.

“I think today went really well,” sophomore transfer Kylie Deberg said. “It’s really nice to finally play at home. It was a really cool atmosphere.”Missouri kicked off the day with a sweep over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (1-11). It was elementary school day at the Hearnes Center, and the team showed up for the occasion.In the midst of 1,400 cheering kids, the characteristically aggressive Tiger offense came out firing and stayed that way, boasting 46 kills over just three sets.Kylie Deberg came away with 11 kills on .333 hitting, while Alyssa Munlyn tallied 10 kills on .500 hitting. Dariana Hollingsworth and Leketor Member-Meneh were not far behind, posting eight kills apiece.After capturing a comfortable 25-16 first set, the Tigers struggled to pull away from the Islanders in the second. The teams stayed within just a few points of one another, trading off kills and errors.But three kills from Deberg late in the set helped the team slip by with a 25-23 triumph. Missouri then let its momentum roll, capturing the final set 25-17.“We’ve got to clean things up,” coach Wayne Kreklow said . “That’s one of the things that we’re working on every day, and unfortunately, I think it’s just going to take some time. I think we can get a lot better with just general ball control.”The Tigers spent the next several hours preparing for a nightcap against Ohio (4-8).
