ALTON — People may take a special train ride departing from the soon-to-be-closed Alton depot on April 22 or April 23 to Missouri, where they will picnic, then return.
American Association of Railroaders Inc., is sponsoring the “Farewell Alton Depot” train ride to a yet-unannounced destination, where passengers will spend two hours then return to Alton.
Rich Eichhorst, of the St. Louis-based non-profit educational and historical organization, said he expects the two trips to sell out, as capacity is limited. Passengers will embark the train at 10:30 a.m. each day, receive a boxed lunch and beverage, and spend two hours at a site in Missouri before returning to Alton at about 4 p.m.
The depot is located at 3400 College Ave.
During the trips, rail historian Eichhorst will offer informative commentaries and railroad souvenirs will be available for sale. Adult tickets are $29 and $24 for children age 11 and younger.
To order tickets, send a check made out to AAR, 9600 Tesson Ferry Road, St. Louis MO 63123. All requests must include the legal name and age of each passenger; choice of travel date; home address and telephone number; and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. For more …
