Report: Porter Jr. had second, ‘breakthrough’ back surgery

BRANSON MO NEWS: Former Missouri standout forward Michael Porter Jr. underwent a second back surgery, according to a report Wednesday from NBA.com that described the procedure as a “breakthrough” for the forward’s back issues.F Michael Porter Jr., who slid to Denver at No. 14 in NBA Draft due to ongoing back issues, had another surgery last week. The Denver Nuggets do not intend for Porter Jr. to sit out the entirety of the 2018-19 season, but he seems unlikely to begin the season on the court.Porter Jr., who was selected by Denver with the No. 14 pick in June’s NBA Draft, had an initial microdiskectomy procedure of his L3 and L4 spinal disks Nov. 21. He played just 53 minutes at Missouri, spread over three games.

Porter Jr.’s name was mentioned in the top 5 of most mock drafts until the precipitation of a late slide that dropped him to the last spot in the lottery. The Nuggets, though, took the risk on the 6-foot-10 forward whose pure talent has been considered equal to that of any player in his draft class.
